The Eusice Challenge
At Eusice, we started from a simple observation: the quality of stones on the market is deplorable.
in 60% of cases, they are fake stones (resin, tinted glass, reconstituted with glue…).in the remaining 40%, they’re badly polished, very included or simply ugly…
In short, I have no desire to incorporate these stones into my life.
If we want to practice lithotherapy (or if we’re just in love with stones), we need much better than this.
And one of the best places to find energy-filled, breathtakingly beautiful stones is Madagascar!
A family quest: in search of the Ultimate Stone
Madagascar is one of the countries with the richest and most diverse mineral sub-soil.
It was there, in the heart of the mountains, that my grandfather was born.
It was he who first developed an acute passion for minerals, becoming a geologist.
My family still lives there today. In the meantime, my father has become an accomplished lapidary, and I myself have turned to the profession of geologist.
To this end, our workshop goes against the grain of the industry:
Instead of imposing a frantic pace on our craftsmen to produce as many stones as possible in as little time as possible (like the big Third World exporters), we try to meticulously select the most beautiful rocks in order to produce exceptional stones.
It’s hard work that takes place in several stages, each of which requires a great deal of expertise…
1. The choice of raw rock
Every week, we receive raw rock from the mines we work with.
Herein lies the first difference between Eusice and other lapidaries: the vast majority of lapidaries keep and work all the rough rock they receive.
At Eusice, we keep only the best (around 20%), after a long examination process.
It’s more expensive and time-consuming, but making sure we have the best possible rock is essential to our breathtaking stones!
(Note: my father is very happy with the way we do things. Before working at Eusice, he worked with large exporters who asked him to produce a high volume of stone rather than quality. Today, he and his craftsmen can take their time and create the most beautiful stones possible)
2. Rock cutting: the key stage nobody talks about…
Once you’ve selected the best possible raw rock, it’s time to cut it.
This is where it’s make or break! (Impossible without the right know-how).
If the cutting is well done, if it respects the nature of the rock, its inclusions and its natural veining… the stone will reveal all its colors.
On the other hand, if it’s done hastily, a rock that had a lot of potential to begin with will be wasted.
It’s worth noting that “hurrying” is an obligation for many workshops, since they are paid by the kilo by their customers (large exporters).
At Eusice, our craftsmen have the time to:
to examine the rockhandle itcall a colleague for advice.
It’s by taking this time that my father and his colleagues are able to get the best out of every rock we work, without wasting anything.
3. Transformation into polished stone
Polishing means using the abrasion between 2 materials to obtain a surface that is smooth and soft to the touch.
These polishing steps are crucial because if they’re not done carefully and long enough, the stone won’t be smooth…
Worse!
If these steps are done too hastily (which is what other lapidaries do…always for lack of time), the stone will overheat and this will create poques (small chips) on its surface.
(Note: we have even developed polishes adapted to different types of stone. For example, my father has developed a special polish with 7 different materials in succession for soft stones, such as Opal. Most other lapidaries use only 2 polishes… and the same one for all stones)
Being an Eusice customer means preserving know-how, an environment and the people who pass it on!
The (ethical) advantages of family business
In Madagascar, life isn’t easy, to say the least… Poverty is still very present for the majority of the population, and it’s not always easy to feed oneself properly. That’s why many Malagasy lapidary craftsmen accept the excesses of the big players in the industry: (they’ve often never known anything else, by the way)
blatant lack of safety in workshops and mines (no protection, no helmets, dangerous machinery…)no protection against stone dust (which causes respiratory illnesses)Violations of human dignity (delays and even refusal to pay wages, without reason).Cruel instability (there is no right to work in Madagascar… you can lose your job overnight for no reason).
Because we ourselves have suffered from this system, we decided to fight against it with Eusice.
In our workshop, we have set up :
personal protective equipment (cut-resistant gloves, masks, etc.)a first-aid kit (sounds crazy, but it’s the first time our craftsmen have seen this)safety standards inspired by European standards (we built the machines ourselves because we weren’t satisfied with what was on offer locally!)job stability & access to training (our production methods require real expertise)
but also little perks…
a daily meal provided and offered to all craftsmen (often homemade!)a family support association (1% of Eusice’s profits are donated to this association)…
And we’ve got plenty more ideas to come over the next few years!
A contrarian approach to changing the stone industry
Did you know that you’ll never find a stone like Eusice’s anywhere else?
Since our aim is to design A contrarian approach to changing the stone industrythe most exceptional stones possible, we don’t really have the same objective as other Malagasy lapidaries who seek to produce large quantities quickly.
So it would have been very surprising if we had worked in the same way…
…and as you can imagine, we like to do things our own way!
At Eusice, when the craftsmen want to work a new rock or a new format, they consult each other and carry out a series of tests to obtain the best possible stone:
the softest possible polish, the most sublimated color possible, limited presence of natural inclusions, etc
And these tests never stop…
… ever!
Simply because (my father is a perfectionist) we keep trying to improve.
And we believe that it’s only through his efforts that it’s possible to have the most exceptional renderings and the most beautiful stones in existence.
In short… you’ll never find stones like Eusice’s because
our aim is to make the most beautiful stones possible, and to achieve this we develop our own methods in our workshop.
These methods are invented by the hands and minds of completely brilliant people, whom I thank and hug very much!

✅ NATURAL STONE: All of our Blue Calcites come from our family workshop, 178 km from the capital of Madagascar, in the highlands of the mountains. It is here that Judith’s father (a geologist by trade & founder of Eusice) and his team of lapidary artisans work the natural rocks mined in the region into beautiful, natural, handmade palm stones.
✅ THE ARTISANAL PROCESS of creating our Blue Calcites is unique in the lapidary world. Each of our rocks is carefully selected by our craftsmen, before being cut after long reflections to get the most beautiful palm stones. Then comes the polishing, in 6 to 7 steps, different according to the nature of the stone. Unlike other workshops, we take our time to sublimate each stone, rather than trying to mass produce them!
✅ HEALING CRYSTAL: Place your Stone in the palm of your hands. Close your eyes and feel the chill caused by the coolness of the stone flow through you. Run your fingertips over its smooth surface to open yourself to the energies around you. Then let yourself go and enjoy this moment of letting go to feel a wave of calmness coming through you. These regular privileged moments promote lasting anti-stress effects.
✅ OUR STRUGGLE: The majority of stones on the market are “fake”, either colored glass or resin. Our goal? To offer you an alternative, by honoring the thousand-year-old know-how of Malagasy craftsmen that we know well, since we are part of it! As our stones come directly from our family workshop in Madagascar and we offer them directly to you, we can pay everyone fairly & offer you the best prices!
✅ WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE: 1 x Blue Calcite Palmstone, 1 x Virtue Summary Sheet, 1 x Lithotherapy Guide (Tips for care, cleaning, recharging and purification), 1 x Velvet Pouch (handmade, organic cotton) and… We love our stones, we pamper them so that we are sure you only receive exceptional stones. So if you don’t like one of them, contact us and we will bend over backwards to rectify the situation within 24 hours!
Customers say
Customers find the labradorite stone beautiful and well-polished, appreciating its great size and good value for the price. However, the surface smoothness receives mixed reviews, with several customers noting deep fissures and cracks.
