Kubera, also known as Kuvera or Vaisravana, is revered in Hindu mythology as the god of wealth and the treasurer of the gods. He is often depicted as a stout and prosperous figure, adorned with jewels and carrying a money pot or a bag of gold, symbolizing his status as the guardian of treasures. According to the Hindu scriptures, Kubera is one of the Lokapalas or guardians of the directions, presiding over the North. He is considered the son of Vishrava and the half-brother of the demon king Ravana. Despite his association with opulence and prosperity, legends often portray Kubera as a humble devotee of Lord Shiva, living in the city of Alaka in the Himalayas near Kailasa, Shiva’s abode. Kubera also plays a significant role in Hindu epics and texts such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata, where he is depicted as both a divine authority on wealth and a generous benefactor.
